Member companies are the largest issuer group of SIX Swiss Exchange
With 62 percent, the member companies of SwissHoldings account for around two-thirds of the total market capitalization at the SIX Swiss Exchange (as of March 31, 2024). This represents a slight decrease of 2 percentage points compared to the previous year. The member companies of SwissHoldings still hold the largest share of the market capitalization at the Swiss stock exchange.

One third of the capital stock of Swiss direct investors is held by member companies, with a rising trend
In 2022, the capital stock of Swiss direct investors abroad decreased by nine percent to CHF 1,319 billion compared to the previous year. The decline in direct investments by the member companies of SwissHoldings was less pronounced, accordingly, their share of the total Swiss direct investments increased by one percentage point to 35%. For SH companies, the decrease in capital stock was due to intra-group credit transactions, with reductions in claims against foreign subsidiaries.

Swiss corporations currently employ close to 3.6 million people abroad
The total number of employees of Swiss direct investors abroad slightly increased in 2022 compared to the previous year. The workforce of the member companies of SwissHoldings increased by 31,595 people, recording a growth of two percent. The relative share has remained stable compared to the previous year.

SwissHoldings member companies remain major employers
At the end of 2022, the member companies of SwissHoldings employed over 1.8 million people worldwide. The changes compared to the previous year were minimal. While the number of employees abroad increased slightly over the course of the year, it decreased slightly domestically to 196,477 people.

Particularly in Europe, there are changes in the workforce and capital stock
In terms of the capital stock of the member companies of SwissHoldings, it is evident that the share of EU countries compared to other regions decreased by 2 percent in 2022. In contrast, the capital stock and therefore the relative importance of the USA and Canada increased.
In the regional breakdown of the workforce of SH companies, it is noticeable that the workforce in the EU and Latin America increased significantly. Both regions recorded an increase of more than five percent in absolute numbers. A slight decline in workforce was recorded in Asia; especially in India due to divestments, and in Central and Eastern Europe with a decrease of 16 percent, due to the geopolitical situation in Russia.
